Helping out. Sharing the load. Opening our doors.
Meat The Need.
Meat The Need is a charity launched in April 2020 by two farmers in the Nelson region. Siobhan O’Malley (Pukeko Pastures) and Wayne Langford (YOLO Farmer) are passionate about seeing meat on more tables around New Zealand.
The Gullies is proud to be a donor/supplier to Meat the Need, meaning some of our profit and/or our meat is in mince going into 200,000 food parcels this year.
Trees That Count.
Trees That Count was launched in November 2016. The charity has a registry of community planting groups so that every tree donated goes to an established programme. Guests who stay at The Cottage are asked if they’d like to donate to Trees That Count as well as plant as many trees as they’d like on our farm during their stay. You can see how we’re tracking on the Trees That Count leaderboard under The Gullies.
We figure matching each tree donated with planting a tree on farm is a small way to help NZ reach its target of planting 1,000,000,000 by 2028.
The Gullies Art Residency.
Inaugural Artist: Andrew McLeod
(January-March 2022).
We look forward to offering an 8-week residency each year. The recipient will stay in The Cottage and be welcome to explore our 250ha farm as they work on their practice. With the Sarjeant Gallery just a half hour drive away in Whanganui and other regarded art hubs Wellington, Kāpiti Coast and New Plymouth all within 2.5 hours, The Cottage will be a place to both retreat and reach out to arts communities around the lower North Island.
