Relax. Explore. It’s all here.

Mt. Ruapehu, Kapiti Island and Taranaki Maunga can all be seen from our farm: in fact if you’re lucky, you’ll see all three from a special spot on a clear day.

Our cottage, built in 2018, has been re-purposed from a home for farm crew to pared-back indulgence for those in need of comfort and quiet or a base for adventures. Whatever your mission may be, you’ll stay in everyday luxury.

Comfortably sleeping 4, with space for 6 maximum upon request, The Cottage at The Gullies has been thoughtfully decorated with vintage furniture, crisp linen bedding and New Zealand art and design. Because of its rural location just ten minutes from Marton, The Cottage is an ideal getaway spot for those wanting to simply stop and recharge; are visiting our district for a special event such as a wedding or family gathering; or for those keen to explore our region over a few days. From National Park to Whanganui River: from the Tararua Ranges to Horowhenua Beaches.

Ohakune is 90 minutes, Foxton Beach 40 min, Kapiti Coast 50 min, Whanganui 35min and Palmerston North 45min.

But for all the adventures in the world, there is still no place like our home.

Here at The Gullies we house nearly 60ha of native bush where birdsong is constant and wild animals seek shelter. We run 700 Morrison Wiltshire and 700 Low-input Composite sheep as well as 60 Burnbank Hereford cattle on a farm of flats and hill country. Our waterways are protected and we have a quiet and steady tree-planting program that will serve future generations long after we’re gone. Richard’s family has been farming these parts for 165 years and show no signs of stopping anytime soon. We are food producers; stewards of this land- we can’t wait for you to explore our backyard.

Marton is our local town, less than ten minutes away. Everything you might need on holiday can be found there. With plenty of lovely spots and hidden gems and small town spirit, we hope you’ll want to support local and explore our town with your complimentary Friends of The Gullies pass.

We’ve sorted out a map of the farm for you to find out where the mountain biking and makeshift walking trails are: but you’ll have to book at least two nights with us first before obtaining the intel!

If you would like to book accommodation directly through us, please email Laura here.

Our rates are: $200 per night for up to 2 people, $75 pp for guests 3,4 and 5; the 6th guest stays free.

Please note The Cottage is suitable for non-crawling babies only, and a Phil ‘n’ Teds portacot, front pack and/or backpack and farm-hack Mountain Buggy can be provided with our compliments. Any further requirements, please just ask.

The Cottage: A Meeting Hub.

We are excited to welcome small and family businesses, or urban-based businesses to our farm.

The Cottage is an alternative but ideal set up for small meetings of up to 8 people (6 overnight). We offer a variety of packages, well-suited for family businesses needing neutral but friendly-feeling territory as they plan succession, or face challenge and change; or urban-based companies needing a rural escape. If you are self-employed and able to work from wherever, why not enjoy a few days away from it all but with all the necessities for your business to continue running smoothly?

A farm tour is an additional option, with catering available for all events at The Cottage. Please do get in touch with Laura to find out more.
