A bit about us.

Richard Morrison

Rich lives and breathes farming, family and friends. With a passion for livestock genetics and governance as well as lobbying for farmers, Rich works hard to be both a progressive and smart farmer, while never forgetting what his intuition tells him- or what older generations have taught him or left for him to carry on working towards.

Rich is a sixth generation Morrison farmer on Fern Flats, and even if the 7th generation chooses not to farm, it’s a real joy raising a family on the place you’ve always called home. His eldest son Henry is old enough now to be ‘helping’ on farm which makes each task interesting, and little Ferg born in October 2020 won’t be too far behind!

Rich is a lover of food that is truly nature’s bounty; his dream meal is crayfish, lamb and ratatouille washed down with red wine and/or a fresh Kawakawa leaf tea. He’s also been known to take a bite from the odd fodderbeet!

Rich is proud to be: a food producer and a food lover; a father and husband.

Rich wishes he was: able to go diving more often, able to be in two places at once.

Laura Morrison

Laura is originally from the Eastern Bay, so the lack of a beautiful beach within 3km was a tough pill to swallow when she first moved in with Rich. Luckily she also grew up on a dairy farm.

While it’s a different way of life on a sheep and beef farm, the inherent need to farm and ability to work with stock (as well as grub thistles!) has meant an easy transition. In saying that, sons Henry & Fergus take up most of her time at the moment! It’s lucky they are both seriously cute and delightful kids.

With a background in wine and communications and a love of arts and music, Laura is focused on ensuring The Gullies is a place that anyone, from anywhere, can feel welcome and comfortable in when taking the time to visit.

Loz is proud to be: dynamic, compassionate, part of the NZ Ag Sector.

Loz wishes she was: better at maths, slightly less impulsive, a multi-tasker.
